Premier Print and Gold Ink Awards Reflect Growth for Allen Press

Lawrence, Kan. – September 10, 2015 – Although Allen Press is best known for its long history with scholarly journals, the company has also consistently earned recognition– and awards– for its excellent printing capabilities outside of the scholarly realm. In the Gold Ink Awards, Allen Press won three Silver awards in the Directories, Trade Magazine, and Scientific & Trade Journals categories. The award-winning publications were the 2015 3×3 Illustration Directory, Creative Quarterly, No. 37, and The Mineralogical Record, Volume 45, Number 3, respectively.Hoover Digest was awarded Bronze in the Scientific & Technical Journals category, and the 2015 Ames Percherons Calendar earned a Pewter award for Calendars. Allen Press Experiences Notable Growth of Pinnacle Online Publishing Service

LAWRENCE, Kan. – February 25, 2015 – Allen Press, Inc., has announced that over the past twelve months, the number of journals hosted on its Pinnacle Online Publishing platform has increased by 42%. The platform will now host 184 publications on 117 publisher websites. This growth also includes 23 publishers previously hosting their content on the Metapress platform, which will be decommissioned in early 2015.

Pinnacle is a template-based content hosting solution built on the robust Atypon Literatum software. A number of new features have been added recently, including metered access, special collections, and faceted search. The Pinnacle Users Blog is another tool that assists publishers in maximizing features on their Pinnacle websites.

In addition to hosting services, Pinnacle also includes XML-tagging, content loading, site editing, and end-user customer support. By using Pinnacle, publishers can deliver a variety of content types, including journal articles, books, abstracts, and multimedia files on their own independently branded, mobile-optimized website.

“Publishers choose Pinnacle because it pairs the same robust technology in use by large commercial and society publishers with top-notch customer service offered by our electronic services support team. Many society and association publishers have limited staff resources available for production-related tasks, so our online hosting solution is a perfect fit and allows them to maintain a hands-off approach at an affordable price,” said Melanie Dolechek, Director of Publishing and Marketing at Allen Press. “We are looking to continue this growth pattern into 2015 as more publishers realize the value of providing their content to readers in a way that maximizes discoverability by search engines and encourages usage on mobile devices.

Next month, Allen Press will be launching a more customizable version of Pinnacle as an additional option for publishers who have specific design requirements. Pinnacle Premium combines all the functionality of Pinnacle with a more flexible design that allows for a more configurable homepage. More information on Pinnacle Premium will be available next month.

New Pinnacle Premium™ Online Publishing Solution Allows Scholarly Publishers More Design Freedom

LAWRENCE, Kan. – February 10, 2015 – Allen Press has announced the launch of Pinnacle Premium™, a new addition to the Pinnacle online publishing platform that combines all of the functionality and rich features of Pinnacle with more flexibility in site design and additional features.

Pinnacle is a templated content hosting solution built on the robust Atypon Literatum software. In addition to hosting services, Pinnacle also includes XML-tagging, content loading, site editing, and end-user customer support. Using Pinnacle, publishers can deliver a variety of content types including journal articles, books, abstracts, and multimedia files on their own independently branded, mobile-optimized website.

Pinnacle Premium™ includes several enhancements that allow for more configurability. Customizable banner and footer frames displayed throughout the site, a large customizable area of HTML on the home page, and additional advertising space across the site allow publishers to better highlight their brand and communicate the objectives of their organizations.

In the new expandable table of contents, users can expand article titles to view abstracts without leaving the page. Useful article tools such as saving to favorites list, sharing, and tracking and exporting citations are available directly from the table of contents page. A tabbed article view in the new user interface will display metadata at the top and allow the user to view different sections of the article such as abstract, figures, references, media, supplemental material, and the full text. Full text articles and chapters are available in both HTML and PDF formats.

An optional discussions feature will allow registered users to leave comments on articles in order to facilitate dialogue and foster communication. Publishers can choose to approve and/or moderate comments before they become publicly available.

“Pinnacle has a proven track record for pairing robust online publishing technology with outstanding customer service,” Product Marketing Manager Joanna Gillette said. “Pinnacle Premium is a great way for us to build on this tradition by serving publishers who want more control over the look and feel of their website and advanced features for their users, but may not have the staff time or expertise to manage a custom online publishing solution.”
