LAWRENCE, Kan. – February 2, 2015 – Allen Press, Inc. was ranked in the top half of the Printing Impressions 400 (PI 400) in the December 2014 edition of Printing Impressions magazine. The PI 400 provides the industry’s annual ranking of leading printing companies in the United States and Canada. The listings are based on sales figures reported to Printing Impressions in 2014.

Allen Press and Employees Support Local Organizations in 2014

LAWRENCE, Kan. – January 20, 2015 – Every year, Allen Press employees choose several local and national organizations to support through various fundraising activities and community service events.

In 2014, employees contributed to the United Way and the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence.  Employees also participated in an Elf-on-the-Shelf fundraiser for the Douglas County Toys for Tots that raised $200 in addition to two overflowing boxes of toy donations.  In November, 10 percent of proceeds from a company Book Fair also benefited the Douglas County Toys for Tots.

Allen Press continues to support other local charitable causes such as Red Dog’s Dog Days and the University of Kansas’ Vosper Society.  Contributions were also made to the Lawrence Schools Foundation, including sponsorship of a Community Education Breakfast and the Distinguished Teacher Award.

Allen Press continued its relationship with the Lawrence Arts Center in 2014, which included a print sponsorship for the William S. Burroughs exhibit.  A donation was also made to BioOne in support of its annual meeting.  An annual holiday donation was presented to Doctors Without Borders on behalf of Allen Press customers.

In November 2014, Allen Press was recognized on behalf of LiveWell Lawrence with a 2014 Culture of Health Action Award.  The company received this award for adopting a tobacco-free campus policy that includes e-cigarettes and for completing training as a WorkWell Lawrence mentor.

Employees have chosen the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence and Just Food as the annual charities for 2015.

Access, Change, Development Main Themes of Annual Seminar

LAWRENCE, Kan. – January 08, 2015 – Allen Press, Inc., will present its annual Emerging Trends in Scholarly Publishing™ Seminar titled Life in the Fast Lane on April 16, 2015, at the Embassy Suites DC Convention Center.

Leaders in the field of scholarly and electronic publishing will share their expertise, experience, and analysis on a variety of topics ranging from access to research, developments in digital publishing, collaboration, and sustainability of scholarly publishing.

Rapid developments in the world of digital publishing are stirring the imagination of those who can see the possibilities and opportunities. Keynote speaker Joe Wikert will share his vision of what we might see through our windshield as we peer into the future.

In a session titled “Engineering the Interchange of Ideas,” Jason Karl of JournalMap, Alberto Pepe of Authorea, and Adam Etkin of Peer Review Evaluation will present information behind the development of their respective organizations that have helped to create bridges and interchanges for many contributors, researchers, authors, and editors. Amy Brand of Digital Science will also present information about a new contributor taxonomy currently in development.

The day will wrap up with a final session titled “Innovative Infrastructure for the Sustainability of Scholarly Communication,” presented by Rebecca Kennison of the Open Access Network. This session will cover creative solutions for sustaining and funding long-term access to scholarly content and its delivery in various forms.

Allen Press Captures Printing Impressions Gold for Three by Three Illustrations Directory

LAWRENCE, Kan. – September 03, 2014 – Allen Press, Inc., received top honors in Printing Impressions’ 2014 Gold Ink awards. Gold was awarded for theThree by Three Illustrations Directory, a collection of contemporary portraits and figurative, lifestyle, landscape, and conceptual illustrations in the Books – Directories category.

The company also won a Bronze award in the Scientific and Medical Journals category for The Mineralogical Record. Pewter was also awarded in the same category for Mineral Collections of the Crystal Gazers and Friends, a supplement to The Mineralogical Record.

Gold Ink awards are given based on superior craftsmanship and quality.  Entries, numbering in the thousands each year, are from printers around the world.  In 2013, Allen Press swept the Scientific and Medical Journals category.
