Allen Press wins one gold, two silver awards in the annual Gold Ink Awards competition

LAWRENCE, Kan. – September 22, 2016 In this year’s Printing Impression’s Gold Ink Award competition, Allen Press won a gold and silver award in the Scientific & Technical category and a silver award in the Trade Magazine, Web category.

The Mineralogical Record won the gold award, Orchids won the silver in the Scientific & Technical category and Creative Quarterly won silver in the Trade Magazine, Web category.

Winning pieces were chosen on the basis of print quality, technical difficulty and overall visual effect. Nearly 800 entries were submitted to the competition this year.

“To win a Gold Ink award, every visual element of the publication needs to be at its peak—the design needs to be beautiful, the materials high quality and the printing flawless,” says Randy Radosevich, Allen Press CEO. “It requires strong teamwork, good communication and trust between the publication team and the printing team. The Gold Ink Awards is an annual competition open to all creators and producers of printed materials and has more than 50 categories to enter.

Industry Sales Leader Kevin Bowen Joins Allen Press

LAWRENCE, Kan. – April 22, 2016 Allen Press, Inc., is pleased to announce that Kevin Bowen will be joining its team as a sales executive in early May.

Bowen comes to the position with over 30 years of print industry experience and will focus on forming partnerships and strategic plans that deliver the results his clients look to achieve.

Premier Print and Gold Ink Awards Reflect Growth for Allen Press

Lawrence, Kan. – September 10, 2015 – Although Allen Press is best known for its long history with scholarly journals, the company has also consistently earned recognition– and awards– for its excellent printing capabilities outside of the scholarly realm. In this year’s prestigious Gold Ink and Premier Print award competitions, Allen Press won equal numbers of awards for scholarly/trade publications as it did for other publications.

In the Gold Ink Awards, Allen Press won three Silver awards in the Directories, Trade Magazine, and Scientific & Trade Journals categories. The award-winning publications were the 2015 3×3 Illustration Directory, Creative Quarterly, No. 37, and The Mineralogical Record, Volume 45, Number 3, respectively.Hoover Digest was awarded Bronze in the Scientific & Technical Journals category, and the 2015 Ames Percherons Calendar earned a Pewter award for Calendars. Gold Ink Award submissions are judged on print quality, technical difficulty, and overall visual effect.

Three of those publications, the 2015Ames Percherons Calendar, the 2015 3×3 Illustration Directory, and The Mineralogical Record, also won Certificates of Merit in the Premier Print awards. The final Premier Print certificate was awarded to Allen Press’s newsletter FrontMatter.

PIA MidAmerica Awards Allen Press Three Best of Category GraphEx Awards for Excellence in Printing

LAWRENCE, Kan. – May 1, 2015 – Allen Press was the recipient of eight awards in the Printing & Imaging Association of MidAmerica’s Graphic Excellence Competition (GraphEx). GraphEx was created in 1989 to recognize outstanding work in the print media industry.

The Mineralogical Record, Volume 25, Number 5, the 2015 Ames Percherons Calendar, and FrontMatter, Issue Number 29, won Best of Category awards in Magazines, Periodicals and Publications (Web Press); Calendars (Booklet); and Newsletters, respectively. Allen Press also received five Awards of Excellence for various publications, including Orchids, Volume 83, Issue 3, Doll News, Summer 2014, Mineral Collections in Texas, the 2014 Windmore Literacy Magazine,and the Three by Three Illustrations Directory.

Judges qualify pieces based on several categories, including binding, use of paper, coating, clarity, and smoothness. The Mineralogical Record, Volume 25, Number 5, the 2015 Ames Percherons Calendar, and FrontMatter, Issue Number 29 will be entered into the international competition for Printing Industries of America’s Premier Print Awards.

Allen Press was honored at the 2015 Awards Gala on April 30, which was held at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
